The lottery prize which is helping a whole family Posted On 26 March 2021

Generosity is certainly in the air within the Hull area, as a £250,000 winning couple have decided to give away the entirety of their winnings

Allan Stanley and wife Yvonne, were within the winning postcode, grabbing a share of a mouth-watering £3m, given by the People’s Postcode Lottery. As Alan was within the full winning postcode, he, alongside five neighbours, won the greater sum of £250,000.

The pair had first decided to splash out on a dream holiday, with Yvonne stating, ‘If we could fly off somewhere, we’d be flying off tomorrow!’ She added, ‘We absolutely love our holidays so the next one will be a big touring holiday. Australia or Canada, somewhere like that’.

However, they felt that it was important to ‘treat their families’, after the tough year it has been. The pair have six grand-children, six great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild, so the prize is sure to reach a great many recipients. When explaining their decision, Yvonne said, ‘Obviously, people are struggling right now so it will be a nice surprise. Everybody is having such a horrible time right now, but now we can treat everybody’.

When the announcement was made over a virtual call with lottery ambassador Judie McCourt, back in January, the couple were left ‘teary and almost speechless’. Alan commented, ‘I’m dumbstruck, I don’t know what to say. It’s unbelievable. I honestly cannot believe it.’ Yvonne went on to say, ‘Oh my God. Oh my God. I absolutely did not expect that. When you see it on the TV you don’t think it’s real, but it obviously is!’

This particular prize was part of a draw promoted by Postcode International Trust, which provides funding to good causes that support the creation of sustainable solutions that alleviate poverty, hunger and enable food security.

The pair have wisely announced that they won’t be getting too involved in the portioning of the money though, when stating, ‘It’s up to them who gets what’.
